Vacant housing schemes

Which state schemes exist for empty homes, and who they are meant for.

Not every scheme suits every person. Many are designed for an individual owner, not for a company or an organisation.

The schemes

• Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant: a grant for repairing a vacant home. The amount and conditions follow the official rules. For an individual owner.
• Repair and Leasing Scheme: repair and long-term lease through a local council or a housing body. For an owner who works with a council or an approved housing body.
• Buy and Renew: buying and renewing vacant homes for social housing. For councils and housing bodies.
• Commercial buildings and conversions: separate conditions depending on the type of property.
